Makaleha Falls: A Kauai Waterfall Hike
When it comes to family-friendly hikes in Kauai, I’m not sure I’d put the hike to Makaleha Falls on the list, simply due to that fact that this hike was not well-marked and there was a lot of guess work involved. It involves crossing the stream several times, climbing over rocks and branches, and a lot of second guessing. But, it’s also a lot of fun. As far as the ability to do it? My kids, ages 10, 9 and 6 at the time, had no issue. It was more the nervousness of us parents, questioning if we were going to end up in the right spot, and if we…

Kitchen Creek Falls Hike, Pine Valley, CA
After completing the 3 Sisters Falls Hike in Julian a couple weeks ago, I have been on a mission to take the kids hiking as regularly as possible. Especially right now when the weather has been overcast and cool, and the water in the mountains has been flowing. I knew Kitchen Creek Falls would be a great trail to try next, and I was right. The hike to Kitchen Creek Falls is a pretty easy hike overall. My friend and I took three 7-year-olds and they did great on the trail. It’s about 5 miles roundtrip and you only gain 750 feet or so, so it’s a relatively flat hike…

5 Peaks Challenge: Mission Trails, San Diego

This is why the 5 peaks challenge was initially started. The Mission of the 5 Peak Challenge In order to get people to explore the other peaks, and not just the ever-popular Cowles Mountain, the Mission Trails visitor center established the…

Cedar Creek Falls: A Waterfall Hike in San Diego
Chasing Waterfalls: Hiking to Cedar Creek Falls in Ramona, CA I finally checked another waterfall off my San Diego hikes bucket list– the Cedar Creek Falls Hike. And it was worth the wait! We completed Three Sisters Falls and Kitchen Creek Falls two years ago, and since then, we’ve been itching to get the Cedar Creek. I’ve seen so many pictures of this waterfall, but I was still blown away by its size and beauty when I saw it in person. It was amazing. I promise these pictures don’t do it justice. I clearly need to work on my nature photography skills. This is a Southern California adventure that offers…
