Every October, more than a million visitors come to Salem to experience its famous Halloween atmosphere, making it one of the most popular fall destinations in the United States.

What we found was a town that fully embraces Halloween in the best way possible. Here are the best things to do in Salem, Massachusetts during Halloween season—especially if you’re visiting with friends. Just beware that Salem gets super busy as it gets closer to Halloween. If you dislike crowds, maybe choose to go earlier in the season, and try to avoid the weekends.   • Use Public Transportation – Parking is extremely limited. Taking the train from Boston is often easier.
  • Expect Crowds – Especially on weekends and Halloween week. Go in with flexible expectations and a good attitude.

  • Comfortable Shoes Are Non-Negotiable – You’ll walk more than you think.
