Easy Camping Desserts That Kids Go Crazy For

Last updated on

No camping trip is complete without s’mores. They’re easy, delicious, and not too messy (unless you buy the giant marshmallows–we’ve learned that lesson the hard way). But when you’re camping multiple nights, or you really want to pull out all the stops to wow your camping crew, these are some easy camping desserts to add to the rotation.

My goal for this upcoming year of camping is to take better pictures of these amazing camping desserts. While we have tried (and loved) each of these, my pictures don’t do them justice. I have found better images online until I can replace all of them with my own.

And, if you’re looking for more camping resources, be sure to check out my other popular posts as well:

My Favorite Camping Desserts That are Easy & Delicious

Classic Campfire S’mores (With a Twist)

A young girl in a pink sweatshirt is smiling while holding an easy camping dessert, standing near a camping tent surrounded by trees. Two colorful beach chairs are visible in the foreground.

Let’s start with the obvious.
S’mores are basically required camping food, and for good reason—they’re simple, interactive, and kids never get tired of them.

But if you want to mix things up without making things complicated, try:

  • Peanut butter cups instead of chocolate (or a variety of chocolate bar options)
  • Cookies instead of graham crackers
  • Strawberries or bananas added to the middle
  • Flavored marshmallows (birthday cake, caramel, or chocolate-filled)

Set everything out buffet-style and let kids build their own. Half the fun is watching them try to stack way too much chocolate. Pro tip: don’t buy the giant marshmallows. While they might seem exciting, they spill out of the graham crackers and make way too much of a sticky mess.

Campfire Banana Boats – An easy camping dessert to prepare over the campfire

Banana boats are a camping classic for families because they’re almost impossible to mess up.

Here’s the basic idea:

  • Slice a banana lengthwise (leave the peel on)
  • Stuff it with chocolate chips, marshmallows, and whatever else sounds good
  • Wrap it in foil
  • Warm it over the fire or grill until everything is melty

Kids love these because they get to customize them, and parents love them because it’s easy cleanup–just toss the foil. But I’ll warn you: the gooey banana can be a bit messy with kids.

Fun add-ins:

  • Peanut butter
  • Crushed cookies
  • Sprinkles
  • Whipped cream to add on top

Campfire Cones

If your kids love ice cream cones, this one is a guaranteed hit.

Grab waffle cones and fill them with:

  • Chocolate chips
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Sliced strawberries or bananas
  • Crushed graham crackers or cookies

Wrap each cone in foil and heat it over the fire until everything melts together. It’s like a handheld s’more-meets-fondue situation—and kids go wild for it.

Bonus: no plates required.

Campfire Chocolate Fondue – One of the easiest camping desserts on this list

This one is super easy, which makes it perfect for camping. And technically, there’s no campfire required for this one. You can melt the chocolate on your camping stove if fires are prohibited where you’re at.

Bring:

  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips or chocolate bars to melt
  • Pretzel sticks or skewers

Melt the chocolate over the fire or camp stove, dip the marshmallows, and let kids roll them in crushed cookies, sprinkles, or cereal if you’re feeling fancy.

It feels like a big treat, but it takes almost zero effort.

Campfire Cinnamon Roll Ups

These are a great option if you want something warm and cozy without baking.

All you need:

  • Crescent roll dough
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon sugar

Wrap strips of dough around a roasting stick, cook over the fire until golden, then brush with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

They taste like mini churros and disappear fast.

Cooking an easy and delicious campfire dessert over a fire while camping.

If you’re camping with a camp stove or grill, a skillet dessert is such a crowd-pleaser.

Use:

Cook it slowly, keep an eye on it, and let everyone dig in with spoons. Add marshmallows on top if you want to make it extra campy. Cookie dough is super easy since you just add the dough to the pan (it’s like a pizookie from BJ’s!). Brownies take a bit more work since you’ll need to mix the egg, oil and water together first. But both are soooo good!

This one feels like a big deal dessert without being complicated.

S’mores Nachos – An easy camping dessert that’s great for groups

When you’re camping with a group—or just have kids who want more—this is the move. You can make it real exciting but coming up with even more fun toppings to add in.

Layer in a foil pan:

  • Graham cracker pieces
  • Chocolate chips
  • Marshmallows

Heat it over the fire or grill until melty and gooey, then let everyone scoop it up. It’s messy, fun, and perfect for sharing.

No-Bake Oreo Dirt Cups

Not every camping dessert needs a fire. This one here is a classic, and you probably remember these from birthday parties and school desserts. But it can be a an easy camping dessert too!

Before your trip, pack:

  • Oreos
  • Chocolate pudding cups
  • Gummy worms

Let kids crush the cookies, layer everything in cups, and add worms on top. It’s easy, silly, and a great option for nights when you’re too tired to deal with the fire.

Ok, this one is for my bougie campers because it takes a bit of electricity and maybe a freezer. But if you camp with electricity (or even just a power hookup), this dessert feels almost too good to be true.

All you do is place a scoop of refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough right onto a mini waffle maker (I use this one), close the lid, and let it cook for a couple of minutes until it’s golden and slightly crispy on the outside while staying gooey in the middle. Then take it out, put it on your plate and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

For tent campers, you can use dry ice in your cooler to keep the ice cream frozen, but I suggest you make this one your first night then, to be safe. Or you can use whipped cream instead of ice cream. The warm, gooey cookie is so amazing, it really doesn’t matter what you top it with.

Top it off with:

  • A scoop of ice cream
  • Or, for an easier tent-camping option, whipped cream

That’s it. No mixing, no fire, no mess—and kids absolutely lose their minds over it. To be honest, so do I!

You can keep it simple or let kids customize with:

  • Chocolate syrup
  • Caramel drizzle
  • Sprinkles
  • Mini chocolate chips

It tastes like a warm cookie + waffle hybrid and feels like a huge treat at camp, even though it takes less than five minutes to make.

Why parents love it:

  • Minimal prep
  • One ingredient does most of the work
  • Easy swap from ice cream to whipped cream if you don’t want to deal with melting coolers

This one quickly becomes a “we have to make this every trip” kind of dessert.

Why These Easy Camping Desserts Are Always a Hit

A camping dessert that consists of a cookie baked over a campfire and a scoop of ice cream on top.

Camping desserts don’t need to be perfect. That’s kind of the point.

They’re:

  • Interactive
  • Messy in a fun way
  • Simple enough for kids to help
  • Different from what you make at home

And food always tastes better while camping–it’s a fact! For kids, dessert around the campfire often becomes one of those core memories they talk about long after the trip is over.

Final Tip for Easy Camping Desserts: Let Kids Be in Charge

A young girl wearing a pink jacket and white shorts is standing outdoors at a campsite, holding an easy camping dessert and showing a playful expression.

If there’s one secret to camping desserts kids go crazy for—it’s letting them help. Let them fill, stack, stir, and create. Even if it’s a little chaotic, that’s part of the magic.

Because at the end of the day, the best camping desserts aren’t about being fancy. They’re about sticky fingers, chocolate smiles, and one more reason everyone can’t wait for the next trip.

Thanks for reading my post. My name is Jaime and I am a mom to three busy children. When we're not at the soccer and football fields, we try to get away as often as possible. I'm a teacher and my husband is a firefighter, so we mostly get away for long weekends or over the school breaks. I hope to inspire busy families to take time to recoup and relax while making memories on camping trips or cruise ships, or at the fancy resort pool--we love it all!
