Top Kid-Friendly Wineries in Southern California

Just because you have kids doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a day at the wineries. Unlike bars, where the minimum age is typically 21, wineries are usually open to all ages and are a great spot to have lunch or enjoy a day of sunshine. I first started pondering the idea of kid-friendly wineries when we were constantly having sports tournaments in Temecula, home of some amazing wineries. That’s when I discovered just how many great winery options exist for families.
If you’re looking for a day out with the family that checks both the “relaxing wine tasting for the grown-ups” box and the “kids can roam and play” box — you’re in luck. Southern California actually offers some surprisingly good, kid-friendly wineries where parents can sip and kids can explore (or at least be comfortable). Below are five favorites that strike that balance nicely.
And, if you’re looking for even more fun winery outings, check out these awesome wineries in Valle de Guadalupe!
1. Kid Friendly Wilson Creek Winery – Temecula Valley

Wilson Creek is one of Temecula’s most well-known and welcoming wineries, especially for families. The sprawling property has plenty of outdoor space to explore and even a play structure where kids can play freely and safely. In addition to the play structure, families will find board games and outdoor games like giant Jenga and cornhole available, keeping kids entertained while parents enjoy wine tasting. It’s known for its casual, friendly atmosphere and is definitely one of the most kid-friendly wineries in the area.
There’s an on-site restaurant serving lunch and snacks, and we love making a whole afternoon of our visit. The expansive lawn and picnic area provide the perfect spot for families to relax, enjoy a meal, and let kids run and play in the open space.
Between the beautiful grounds, the welcoming staff, and the relaxed setting, this is one of those wineries where everyone in the family can unwind.

Nestled in the heart of Temecula Valley, Wilson Creek Winery stands out as one of the best family friendly wineries in Southern California. This family run winery is known for its warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere. It’s a favorite destination for families looking to experience wine country together.
The picturesque vineyards provide a stunning backdrop for your visit. And the historic wine tool museum on site offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s winemaking heritage—perfect for curious kids and adults alike. Wilson Creek’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all ages has earned it a reputation as one of the best family friendly wineries in the area. While parents enjoy a glass of their famous Almond Champagne (my favorite!) or other varietals, kids can explore the beautiful grounds. Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, Wilson Creek Winery is a must-visit for families seeking a memorable day in wine country.
Kid-Friendly Activities at Wilson Creek
Wilson Creek Winery goes above and beyond to ensure families feel right at home, offering a variety of kid friendly activities that make it a big hit with younger guests. The expansive outdoor space features a dedicated play area complete with a playground, where kids can climb, slide, and burn off energy while parents relax nearby. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the grounds, making it easy to enjoy a family lunch or snack in the fresh air. For a bit of friendly competition, the bocce ball court is always a favorite—kids and adults alike can join in the fun.
One of the highlights for many families is the farm shop. Kids can meet and feed farm animals, adding a hands-on, educational element to the visit. Throughout the year, Wilson Creek hosts a variety of family friendly events, from live music performances to grape stomping and festive holiday celebrations. These activities create a lively, welcoming atmosphere that encourages families to linger and make memories together.
For younger kids, there’s a special play area stocked with toys and games. So everyone can find something to enjoy while parents savor a wine tasting or explore the winery’s offerings. With so much to do, it’s easy to see why Wilson Creek is considered one of the best family friendly wineries in the region.
2. Peltzer Winery – Temecula Valley: One of the best kid-friendly wineries with farm animals during the holiday season

Peltzer Winery is one of my favorite kid friendly wineries. It has a rustic, farm-style charm that immediately feels fun and approachable. The winery is set on a family farm and operates as a working farm. Kids can see farm animals and learn about agriculture, making it both educational and entertaining. The laid-back environment makes it a great place for a casual tasting.
Peltzer is also dog friendly, welcoming families to bring their leashed dogs along for a relaxing visit. The property is open to all ages Sundays – Thursdays and is 21 and up on Fridays and Saturdays at the Crush House Tasting Room. During the summer months, the Farmstead is open to all ages from open to 8pm.
Throughout the year, Peltzer hosts seasonal events — from pumpkin patches to ice skating — that turn a regular winery visit into a memorable outing and make it even more fun for families to enjoy. It’s one of our favorite holiday traditions for the kids to go ice skating and enjoy hot cocoa while us adults enjoy a glass of wine.
The large outdoor areas make it easy to relax without worrying about keeping kids cooped up inside. It’s easy to see why Peltzer is a great choice for families with both kids and pets.
3. Bernardo Winery – San Diego (Rancho Bernardo)

If you’re looking for a kid-friendly winery that’s further south, Bernardo Winery in San Diego is a wonderful choice. It’s one of the oldest operating commercial wineries in Southern California. It has a rich history and unique attractions that set it apart. The property feels like a little village, complete with cafes, boutiques, and shaded courtyards. You’ll also find a historic wine tool museum and interactive exhibits where families can learn about traditional winemaking techniques.
Guided tours may include visits to the wine caves and the historic wine tool museum, providing an educational experience for all ages. The relaxed, walkable layout makes it a great spot to spend a few hours, with or without kids in tow. Parents can enjoy a flight while exploring the grounds with the kids or grab a bite from the café patio. There are picnic areas and plenty of outdoor seating available for families to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Kids have their own play area and craft stations visible from the tasting area. Plus, family-friendly wineries like Bernardo often provide games and activities such as giant Jenga, cornhole, bocce ball, coloring books, or scavenger hunts. These unique experiences—including educational tours led by actors and interactive exhibits—make Bernardo Winery an especially appealing destination for families.
4. Ponte Winery – Temecula Valley

While perhaps not quite as kid-friendly as some of the other wineries on this list, the Ponte Winery is still an excellent option for families. This winery is known for its beautiful setting and friendly hospitality. It has a calm, upscale feel without being overly formal. It’s a nice balance for families looking for a more refined winery experience that still feels relaxed. The gardens and open-air restaurant provide space to spread out, and families will appreciate the outdoor seating and designated picnic area, perfect for enjoying a meal or letting kids play in the fresh air.
The tasting rooms at Ponte are for ages 21 and up only. But families can enjoy the garden area and the restaurant. The restaurant has plenty of kid-friendly items on it, and they even come with ice cream. Ponte charges a tasting fee, which often includes access to the gardens and sometimes a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage for kids. Please note that outside food is not permitted, but the on-site restaurant offers a variety of options. And kids love the chance to play in the gardens and outdoor spaces, making the winery especially appealing for families.
5. Mount Palomar Winery – Temecula Valley

With sweeping vineyard views and Mediterranean-inspired architecture, Mount Palomar Winery offers one of the prettiest backdrops in Temecula Valley. This gorgeous winery boasts a big outdoor space and an expansive lawn, making it especially inviting for families.
The family-friendly winery features a spacious patio and a full-service restaurant. So it’s easy to settle in for a leisurely afternoon. Families will also find outdoor games like bocce ball and disc golf available, adding extra fun for all ages. The atmosphere here is peaceful and unhurried, perfect for families who prefer something a bit quieter while still soaking up that classic wine country charm.
Plus, kids love playing on the expansive lawn and exploring the nature trails, making the winery ideal for families. The large outdoor areas and shaded picnic spots provide plenty of room for kids to play and for families to relax together. And there are plenty of places for families to explore throughout the grounds.

Before you go — general tips for visiting family friendly wineries

- Call ahead or check the website. Policies vary — some wineries are fully all-ages; others allow children in certain spaces/timeframes. Plus, there could be special events going on that either limit the ages or would make your experience less fun with kids.
- Consider the kid-to-adult ratio. If there is a large group of adults, you’ll have plenty of hands and eyes to help with the kids. But if it’s only a couple adults and a large group of children, it might make it a lot harder to enjoy.
- Pack snacks, water & easy toys. Even at kid-friendly wineries, having your own picnic or snack stash helps keep young ones comfortable while you’re tasting.
- Pick times wisely. Weekdays or early afternoons tend to be less crowded and more relaxed; weekends may have more live-music, events, or busier crowds.
- Pick a winery with outdoor space. The kids’ best memory is often running on lawn space, exploring picnic tables, or playing while you sip. A casual atmosphere, like a backyard barbecue vibe, is generally more comfortable and enjoyable for families than a formal setting.
- Check for stroller accessibility. Look for wineries with paved or crushed-gravel pathways to easily navigate with a stroller.
- Policies regarding minors can change seasonally. Always call ahead to confirm the latest rules about bringing children. Policies may shift depending on the time of year or special events.
- Respect the rules. Even if the winery is family-friendly, there likely are guidelines (e.g., kids must be attended, no outside alcohol or food, certain days may be adult-only zones).
- Have a fallback. If the kids get tired or bored, consider a “walk around the vineyard” or a break under a tree. Sometimes the surroundings are the treat for everyone.
