The Old Spaghetti Factory in San Diego

When traveling to new cities, I love staying downtown and being in the heart of the action. It’s easy to find restaurants and entertainment, and everything tends to be walkable. But sometimes it’s challenging to find family-friendly restaurants downtown. Luckily for people visiting San Diego (or for locals wanting to venture downtown), we have The Old Spaghetti Factory in San Diego.
When looking for kid-friendly restaurants in San Diego, I search for restaurants that offer menu options kids love, a convenient location, and an affordable price. Somewhere that would work for families who are staying in the downtown area, or who want to grab a bite to eat before heading to a baseball game or concert. And the Spaghetti Factory in San Diego fits the bill perfectly. It’s a great addition to your San Diego travel itinerary.
The Old Spaghetti Factory
The Old Spaghetti Factory in San Diego is so nostalgic for me. It was the one place we ate as a family anytime we were in downtown San Diego, and that’s because it was affordable and offered a menu that the entire family enjoyed.

Back then, there was even a red trolley that was in the main dining room and had dining tables in it. Us kids were so excited if we got seated inside the red trolley. That trolley has since been removed due to the reconfiguration of the restaurant, although there are still red trolleys in many of their other locations.
What I Love About The Old Spaghetti Factory in San Diego: The Kids Menu
There are many reasons The Old Spaghetti Factory is at the top of my list of family friendly restaurants San Diego. Besides having a kids menu that my kids legitimately love, it’s also an affordable option for my family of 5. Kids meals are currently $7.50 and include a 3-course meal plus a beverage. Kids can pick a main entrée (a noodle dish or grilled cheese sandwich), and it comes with a soup, salad or applesauce to start, plus a scoop of ice cream for dessert.

Meals on the main menu vary in pricing, but they also come with a soup or salad and ice cream. Plus delicious sourdough bread is served for the whole family to enjoy.

Its Location and Convenience
The location of The Old Spaghetti Factory in the heart of the Gaslamp District can’t be beat, either. It’s a convenient spot to plan dinner before taking the family to an event at Petco Park or heading to the convention center.
Another perk of The Old Spaghetti Factory is their ability to accommodate large parties pretty easily. When we were there on a Sunday evening, a party of 16 walked in with no reservation. A few tables were moved to fit together and they party was seated about 10 minutes after they walked through the door.

Finally, The Old Spaghetti Factory isn’t just located in downtown San Diego. They have locations throughout 13 states, including Honolulu, Hawaii. That means you can find this family-friendly restaurant chain in many of your favorite travel locations.
If you plan to visit, try the Mizithra Cheese and Browned Butter Spaghetti. It’s a Spaghetti Factory staple that I can’t get enough of. I also really enjoyed the Spinach Tortellini with Alfredo Sauce. More importantly, the kids loved everything they ordered and can’t wait to visit again .
