Things to Bring Tent Camping: 10 Must-Haves

Things to bring tent camping - the must haves for your next camping trip.

As we’re gearing up to go beach camping in a few days, I’ve been getting a lot of questions from some friends who are going camping with us for the first time. They need to know the most essential things to bring tent camping.

Not only is it their first time beach camping, but it’s their first time camping at all. This morning, I got a text from them asking me for the top 10 most important things to bring camping, so I decided to compile a list here.

10 Things to Bring Tent Camping

  1. Tent – Here’s a list of the various types of family tents
  2. Sleeping pad or air mattress (and pump if needed) – check out this list of the best sleeping mats
  3. Ice chest
  4. Sleeping bags/ bedding
  5. Camping stove and/or grill
  6. Pots and pans – check out this complete list of what you need in your camping kitchen
  7. Cooking utensils
  8. Eating utensils (plates and silverware)
  9. Camping chair
  10. Lighter/ Aim N Flame

My biggest recommendation for those who are just starting out is to buy the things to bring tent camping in moderation. Start off with inexpensive items–maybe see what you can borrow from your family and friends. Then upgrade as you decide what best fits your camping style and needs.

Prices for things to bring tent camping, like tents and coolers, can vary so much. Start off with something less expensive just to make sure you like camping, and then upgrade item by item as you see fit.

Look for deals on Amazon Prime Days and/or Black Friday. Ask for camping gear for Christmas and birthdays (Grandparents are great for buying the kids nice sleeping bags, etc.). Most importantly, just start somewhere. The memories made while camping are THE BEST.

I have a ton of other resources on my blog for those looking to start camping. Check out some of our favorite camping destinations, like Spring Cove Campground in Bass Lake or San Elijo beach camping in San Diego. Find tips on how to make reservations, and more.

Note: As an Amazon associate, I may earn money on purchases made through links in this blog post.

Thanks for reading my post. My name is Jaime and I am a mom to three busy children. When we're not at the soccer and football fields, we try to get away as often as possible. I'm a teacher and my husband is a firefighter, so we mostly get away for long weekends or over the school breaks. I hope to inspire busy families to take time to recoup and relax while making memories on camping trips or cruise ships, or at the fancy resort pool--we love it all!
