Exploring the Best Cities to Visit in Cali: A Travel Guide
I have lived in California my whole life. Born and raised in San Diego, although I did live in Los Angeles for a few years after college. I never ventured far–and why would I? Beaches, mountains, deserts, lakes, big cities, small cities, wine countries, ski resorts… we truly have it all here. And it’s all so beautiful. Oh, and did I mention the weather is pretty amazing too??
I actually feel bad for people planning a vacation here because how in the world do you decide where to visit? I don’t even know that I could just recommend one city. To really experience California, you need to see at least a sample of it all. Check out this PCH road trip itinerary that covers many of these amazing cities.
Here’s a guide to some of the best cities to visit in Cali and what makes them unforgettable.
1. San Francisco

Why it’s worth visiting: San Francisco’s iconic landmarks and vibrant neighborhoods make it one of California’s most beloved destinations. The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and Fisherman’s Wharf are must-see attractions, while neighborhoods like Chinatown and Haight-Ashbury offer rich cultural experiences.

- Stroll or bike across the Golden Gate Bridge.

From Hollywood’s star-studded attractions to the sunny beaches of Santa Monica and Venice, L.A. offers something for every traveler. You definitely won’t get bored in Los Angeles.

- Take a tour of the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.
- Spend a day at Universal Studios Hollywood or Disneyland (located in nearby Anaheim).
- Explore the Getty Center for art and stunning city views.
- Relax on Santa Monica Beach and walk along its famous pier.
