Explore Kelly Inn West Yellowstone: Family-Friendly Lodging

Last updated on
The Kelly Inn West Yellowstone is a great place to stay

Over the summer, we took an amazing trip from Glacier National Park to Yellowstone and then down to Grand Teton. We didn’t do any camping on this trip, but I wanted to be as close to the national parks as possible. We stayed in some lodges inside the parks as well as some that were just outside. The Kelly Inn West Yellowstone was one that was just outside the parks, but was one of the highlights of our trip.

Here’s what you need to know about the Kelly Inn West Yellowstone. Check out our full Yellowstone travel itinerary if you’re planning a family trip of your own. And if you choose to camp in Yellowstone, here’s a list of the best campgrounds inside Yellowstone National Park.

Kelly Inn West Yellowstone:

The Location

The Kelly Inn West Yellowstone is located just a few blocks from the park’s west entrance, making it ideal for early starts and easy returns after exploring. There is McDonald’s just steps away from the entrance, which is great for grabbing a quick snack or meal. But there are also lots more food options in walking distance from the hotel.

The town of West Yellowstone is home to unique shops and boutiques offering Western-themed gifts, local crafts, and outdoor gear. There are several restaurants serving hearty meals, including bison burgers, trout dishes, and huckleberry desserts. We even found a Packers restaurant there, so of course we had to try it!

  • Close to the entrance to Yellowstone National Park
  • Walkable to many restaurants and souvenir shops
  • Just a short drive (10 mins) to the local nightly rodeo
  • The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center is just across the street

The Amenities

Here’s a list of the amenities at the Kelly Inn West Yellowstone. I want to point out the the continental breakfast was so much better than I anticipated. They actually have 3 different dining areas, and the breakfast options vary at each (and rotate by day). And it’s a hot breakfast buffet. There are plenty of options for everyone.

  • Pet-friendly rooms available
  • Spacious accommodations, including suites for families
  • Indoor pool and hot tub for relaxation after a day in the park
  • Decor features a charming lodge-style ambiance with wood accents and bear-themed touches, reflecting the region’s natural beauty
  • Complimentary hot continental breakfast to fuel your adventures
  • Proximity to restaurants and dining options in West Yellowstone
  • Free parking and Wi-Fi
  • Guest laundry facilities
  • Friendly staff with local knowledge to assist with trip planning

The Rooms at the Kelly Inn West Yellowstone

Our room with bunkbeds at the Kelly Inn West Yellowstone

One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was the fact that the rooms could accommodate our entire family of 5. The rooms were spacious and could actually sleep up to 6 people. We chose to stay in a room that had two queen beds, each with a bunk above it. The kids got a kick out of sleeping in bunk beds, and there was more than enough options for us to spread out a bit. Even if bunk beds aren’t your style, there are still family rooms that can sleep up to 6, utilizing a sofa bed instead of bunk beds.

What’s the Verdict?

I would hands-down stay at this hotel again. It was just perfect for what we were looking for, and I tell anyone who is listening that they should stay here. It’s a super convenient spot for accessing Yellowstone but is also close to so many restaurants and shops. And the town of West Yellowstone is so cute–we loved walking through the shops and trying a few of the restaurants there.

You can book this hotel on any of your favorite booking sites. We booked early and had no issues, but I know it fills up in advance–especially during peak seasons.

Thanks for reading my post. My name is Jaime and I am a mom to three busy children. When we're not at the soccer and football fields, we try to get away as often as possible. I'm a teacher and my husband is a firefighter, so we mostly get away for long weekends or over the school breaks. I hope to inspire busy families to take time to recoup and relax while making memories on camping trips or cruise ships, or at the fancy resort pool--we love it all!
