Motorhome Essentials: What You Need
Things you need for a motorhome that you might not have thought of

We just recently bought our Thor Ace 30.2 motorhome. Before we had that, we had tent camped for many years, so we already had all of the camping basics. We had cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates and silverware, which we just moved from our camping bins into our motorhome. We also purchased sheets, pillows, towels and toothbrushes that would live permanently in the motorhome. But there were a lot of motorhome essentials that we didn’t think of until our first outing in the RV.
Here’s a list of motorhome essentials we ended up purchasing after our first couple of trips.
Motorhome Essentials: Single-Serve Coffee Maker
High on my list of motorhome essentials is definitely a coffee maker.
I was really excited to score a free Keurig from the Buy Nothing Facebook group I’m part of, however, on our first outing, I realized just how big those things are and how little counter space we have in an RV. I purchased a single-cup coffee maker that still brews my k-cups, but takes up WAY less space on my counter. And doin’t forget coffee mugs, if you don’t have any of those on hand.
Paper Towel Holder
Our outdoor kitchen had a built-in paper towel holder, so we needed one that we could put in the motorhome, but could easily move outdoors while we eat.
Ice Maker

Many of the families we camp with can’t live without ice. They set up an outdoor table just outside their RV or trailer, and immediately get an ice maker set up so they can have ice throughout their trip. While I haven’t purchased this yet, I do know they love theirs, and it is high on my list. Just be cautious–they take up a lot of space if you store it inside.
Motorhome Essentials: Trash Can
We’ve always used big camping trash cans, so we had nothing small to keep in the motorhome. Now we have two small RV trash cans; one in the kitchen area and one in the bathroom.
Silverware & Plate Caddy

We still enjoy eating outside even though we have an RV. Having a picnic caddy helps us take our plates and silverware easily to and from the motorhome. Some even have room for condiments and paper towels as well.
Motorhome Essentials: Outdoor Carpet/ Welcome Mat

An outdoor carpet or mat makes for a nice gathering space and helps to keep excess dirt from being tracked into your motorhome.
Camping Lights

Putting some string lights on the awning or side of the motorhome is a great way to add some ambience to your campsite, while also adding some extra light on dark nights.
Toilet Brush
It didn’t take us long to realize that the water pressure in an RV motorhome doesn’t do a great job at clearing out the toilet. A small toilet brush is essential to keep in the RV restroom.
RV Toilet Paper
We did a lot of research about RV toilet paper, and while we did find plenty of options using regular toilet paper, the truth of the matter is that we have kids who use a lot of toilet paper. Even though we tell them not to. So after dealing with clogs on our first two outings, we gave in and purchased the special RV toilet paper.
