Family-Friendly Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas Review

Vegas is a great place for family vacations, sports competitions, road trip stops, etc. There are a variety of reasons you might be looking for Las Vegas family hotels, and there are actually quite a few to choose from. For the sake of this post, I will focus only on The Orleans Las Vegas Hotel, but I do list out the best Las Vegas hotels for kids in another post.

If you’ve ever been to a JAMZ cheer competition in Las Vegas, you have likely visited The Orleans Hotel. That’s what originally brought my daughter and I to this hotel for the first time. When her cheer team made Nationals, I booked the hotel for the convenience to the competition venue. After having stayed there, I can easily see how this hotel is amongst one of the best Las Vegas family hotels.

A couple of other Cheer Moms and I decided to make a mini vacation out of the cheer competition, so we headed to Vegas early and stayed three nights in total.

Things to do: Movie Theater

After arriving and checking in at The Orleans Las Vegas Hotel, we decided to check out the movie theater. Only a handful of Las Vegas family hotels have movie theaters in them. And I couldn’t believe the size of the theater. I was picturing maybe 5 or 6 screens, but this 18-screen movie theater was bigger than what I see in a lot of the malls back home. It was really nice.

After the movie, it was getting to be dinner time. I wanted my daughter to see the Las Vegas strip, so we took the complimentary shuttle over to the strip, and we were dropped off on the north end, at Fashion Show Mall. We enjoyed a sushi dinner and then headed back to the hotel to call it a night.

The next morning, we started off heading to Java Vegas Coffee near the hotel lobby for breakfast. I was very pleased to find that they served Starbucks coffee. We had a few small cheer tasks we had to do during the day, but we had a lot of down time to hang out with friends and explore the hotel.

Like many other Las Vegas family hotels, there is an arcade on site, which always seems to be a huge draw for kids. But the Vegas Orleans hotel also has a large bowling alley and an indoor kids play area on site.

The Pools

The cheer competition was in January, so we didn’t get to enjoy the pools, however, we did scope them out a bit. There are two resort pools and a spa. One of the pools is a small kiddie pool, perfect for the younger kids. We enjoyed lunch at the food court, and then headed to the arcade for a little bit. Then us moms took turns staying back with the girls, so that we could each get in a little bit of gambling time at the hotel casino.

The older girls’ team were competing that afternoon, so we went to The Orleans Arena to cheer them on, and then enjoyed dinner at Ondori Asian Kitchen inside the hotel. Because our girls were taking the stage the next day, we called it a pretty early night and headed back to the room.

The next day we had the cheer competition, which took up a large portion of the day. And our girls took first place, so we had a lot to celebrate that night. We decided to head back to the strip for dinner, and this time we spent a lot more time exploring the strip. The girls’ favorite part? Going to the Sugar Factory! It was definitely the highlight of the trip for them. Well, that and taking home the gold.

What I Loved About The Orleans Las Vegas Hotel

If you are in Vegas for a cheer or dance competition, obviously the main perk of this hotel is the proximity to the Arena, especially if you have multiple events to watch. While there are many Las Vegas family hotels to choose from, it’s fun to stay at the same place as most of the team. We enjoyed running into other girls at the arcade or while we were walking around the hotel.

I chose to pay a little extra for a strip view room, which was nice. Even though we weren’t staying on the strip, having this view made it feel like we weren’t so far from the Vegas action.

I like that there is a free shuttle that takes you to and from the strip, however, it does involve a decent amount of waiting around, and it only stops at one spot on the strip. The second night that we went to the strip, we decided just to Uber so that we could go exactly where we wanted to go.

The Not-So-Great About The Orleans Las Vegas Hotel

When we were there, there were hundreds of cheerleaders staying at the hotel for the competition. This is really fun for the girls, but definitely makes for a lot of noise in the halls. Many girls would run up and down the hallways, going from room to room.

In newer hotels, there’s typically the bathroom when you first enter the room, which blocks a lot of the hallway noise. The way that these rooms are set up, the bed is up against the wall between the room and the hallway, so I could hear everything–girls talking and running, doors slamming, etc. Definitely something to consider if you are staying when there is a cheer competition.

The room also felt pretty dated overall. It did the trick for what we needed, but you can tell it hadn’t been updated any time recently.
