Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break

After the cold winter months, I love having a fun Spring Break trip to look forward to. And Spring Break might look a lot different now than it did in my college days, but there are still so many great family destinations that provide fun in the sun (or even snow!). No matter what it is you’re looking for, these are the best family vacation spots for Spring Break.
Personally, I love looking at Spring Break as a kickoff to the warmer months ahead, so I love a Spring Break destination that is sunny and warm. But one of our closest friends love going skiing for a week every year over Spring Break. So I’ve compiled a list that should satisfy you, no matter which vibe you’re feeling this year.
This list of best family vacation spots for Spring Break also varies on budget. Some of the resorts I share are luxury resorts and aren’t going to work for your Spring Break plans if you’re on a tight budget. But I’ve included options for a variety of budgets. Not every magical vacation needs to break the bank.
Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: Florida Beaches
I can’t talk about the best family vacation spots for Spring Break without mentioning Florida. The sunshine state is sure to have warmth and fun for all ages. The following family beach resorts have earned a top spot on my list of top family Spring Break destinations. And check out my list of all-inclusive resorts in Florida as well.
Tradewinds Resort, St. Pete Beach – $$$

The Tradewinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, FL is comprised of two side-by-side resorts, each offering a luxury vacation experience. No matter which resort you choose–The Island Grand or RumFish–you can enjoy the amenities at both.
Between the two resorts, you have access to 40 beachfront acres, 15 bars and restaurants, 9 pools, 642 cabanas, a floating waterpark, a 3-story waterslide on the beach, and a 33,500-gallon aquarium. Plenty to do for the whole family!
In addition, you can roast s’mores at the firepits, enjoy a dive-in movie, go ziplining, catch a pirate show, play a game of pickleball, shuffleboard, mini golf or ping-pong, and so much more. All included with the resort amenity fee.
Hawks Cay Resort – Florida Keys/ Duck Key – $$$

You’ll never need to leave the Hawks Cay Resort once you arrive–it’s truly a city of its own. And that’s good because it’s located on the secluded island of Duck Key.
Families come from all over to enjoy this beautiful resort complete with its on private lagoon and dolphin encounters. There are also an abundance of family-friendly activities throughout the resort, like complimentary access to kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, a pirate ship pool and splash pad, daily supervised kids activities, pirate shows, complimentary bike rentals and five swimming pools.
Those looking for more adventure can book a watercraft rental or a swimming with the dolphins experience. You can enjoy the on-site sports as well, along with fire pits and multiple bars and restaurants.
Rooms at this resort can sleep up to 8 people, and they even have bunkbed options for kids.
Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: Mexico
Villa del Palmar Beach Resort – Puerto Vallarta $$ – An All-Inclusive Option

We most recently stayed at the Villa del Palmar Beach Resort in Puerto Vallarta over spring break and had the best time. This was one of the few all-inclusive resorts we could find that would accommodate our family of five. It featured spacious two-bedroom suites and all-inclusive plans without costing a fortune. In fact, rooms here are cheaper than many of the resorts on this list–and they include food and alcohol!
The all-inclusive option is not required, and rooms do include kitchens if you prefer to do your own cooking. My kids loved the pools and waterslide, a beautiful beach, and lots of resort activities–not to mention all the shirley temples and ice cream they could ask for. And surprisingly, there is a ton for families to do in Puerto Vallarta.

Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: The Bahamas
The Atlantis Resort – Nassau, Bahamas – $$$$ – One of the best family vacation spots for Spring Break in the Caribbean

One of our favorite family vacations ever was spending Spring Break at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Five miles of beautiful beaches, a 141-acre adventure-packed waterpark, 14 pools, a dolphin cay, a casino, multiple bars and restaurants, and multiple aquariums and marine habitats to explore… what more can you ask for? You can also take a look at these other amazing Caribbean islands for families.
While a trip to the Atlantis won’t be cheap, it was definitely a bucket-list adventure for us and one that we still talk about each year.
Baha Mar – Nassau, Bahamas – $$$$

The Baha Mar has a lot of similarities to The Atlantis. Although there is no Dolphin Cay at Baha Mar, it is a newer property and has the largest casino in the Caribbean.
The Grand Hyatt is the most popular of the three hotels on the property, and one perk is being able to use Hyatt points to make this resort more affordable.
Once at the resort, you can enjoy the 8 swimming pools, 15 acres of beachfront property, a variety of thrill slides, a wave pool, a river float, a surf simulator, and several bars and restaurants. And it’s just steps away from Cable Beach, one of Nassau’s best beaches.
Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: Texas

Austin, Texas and the surrounding areas have so many fun things for kids to do there. We absolutely loved our family vacation in Texas that we took over Spring Break. The weather was warm, but not too warm. We spent hours on the river that ran behind the Airbnb we stayed in. And we ended our trip with a couple of nights in a fancy water park resort in Texas.
This trip was far less expensive than our stay at the Atlantis or the Disney Cruise we did last year, but it was truly just as memorable.
If you decide to pursue a Texas vacation, check out my blog post where I outline our exact itinerary. I’m sharing some great hotels below, but you can also find awesome house rentals right on the lakes and rivers–such fun!
Lakeway Resort & Spa – Austin, TX – $$

Lakeway Resort & Spa doesn’t just have an awesome pool area, it’s also located right on the shore of Lake Travis, providing all kinds of additional fun on the water. You’ll find an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar, a zero-entry kid’s pool with a waterslide and splashpad, and a family pool complete with a volleyball net for some friendly competitions.
And because it’s located right on the lake, Lakeway Resort occupants are a short walk away from an abundance of water activities on the lake, like kayaking, pontoon boats, paddle boarding and fishing.
Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa – San Antonio, TX – $$$

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa is a great Spring Break destination for the whole family. It’s nestled on 405 acres along the Colorado river, making you feel far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city.
This resort has a waterpark, complete with a dark-bottom lazy river that’s shaded by large oak tress to give the feel of an authentic Texas river float. Plus you’ll find a 2-story waterslide and a FlowRider Wave Machine, an adults-only pools, an activity pool, a zero-entry kiddie pool and several hot tubs.
You can also enjoy roasting s’mores at the outdoor firepits, test your skills at archery or take a horseback ride on one of the nearby trails. This resort is perfect for good ole-fashioned family fun.
JW Marriott San Antonio Resort & Spa – San Antonio, TX – $$$

We stayed at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Resort & Spa when we were visiting San Antonio and the kids had a blast there. The on-site waterpark features body slides, tube slides, a sandy beach-side pool, a lazy river, a kids pool with baby slides, a traditional pool, and a large hot tub. There’s food and drink service at the pool and no shortage of lounge chairs.
In addition, there are multiple on-site restaurants, a game room, pickleball courts, golf courses and more. Click here to read more about our experience at this resort.

Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: Ski Resorts
The Village Lodge – Mammoth Mountain, CA – $$$

There are several places you can stay in Mammoth if you’re looking to hit the slopes. I chose The Village Lodge simply because the location and amenities make it super convenient for families. You can rent anywhere from a studio to a 3-bedroom condo, enjoy multiple hot tubs and heated pools, have easy and direct gondola access to the slopes, plus multiple restaurants and bars just steps away.
Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: The Desert
Arizona and Palm Desert are two of best family vacation spots for spring break because the weather is perfect. You can typically enjoy warmer weather, and at a much cheaper price tag than traveling to Hawaii or the Caribbean. Check out these Arizona family vacation ideas for your spring break, along with this list of the best things to do in Phoenix.
Don’t get me wrong, because these seasons are prime seasons in the desert, the resorts will be pricier than they are in the heat of summer, but they still tend to be less expensive than visiting a tropical island.
Arizona Grand Resort – $$$

There are several Arizona resorts with some amazing pools to choose from, but the Arizona Grand Resort is topping my list because it has an entire waterpark on the property. You’ll find a lazy river, speed slides, a wave pool and a kiddie pool.
There are also several restaurants and bars on site, and they’re great for families and kids of all ages, so you never need to leave. It’s no wonder this is one of the best family resorts in Phoenix.
Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort – Indian Wells, CA – $$$

Like Arizona, there are so many great resorts in the Palm Springs area that are geared towards providing fun in the sun for all ages. Located just outside of Palm Spring, the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells recently underwent a major pool renovation that has made it more than worthy of being on my list of best family vacation spots for Spring Break.
This family resort features a pair of 3-story high dueling water slides that are said to be the highest in the desert. You’ll also find a 450-ft lazy river and a splash pad full of activities for the littles. With poolside movies, s’mores and many activities for the kids, you can relax while sipping a cocktail from the poolside bar while the kids are entertained.
Best Family Vacation Spots for Spring Break: Camping

Spring is one of the best times to go camping, especially in some of the destinations that get too hot in the summer. National Parks like Zion, Joshua Tree and The Grand Canyon are much more enjoyable in the spring. And because it’s not too hot, you can actually spend your time hiking and exploring the area.
Here are some of my favorite campgrounds to visit in the spring. They do all tend to fill up far in advance, so keep that in mind when planning your vacations, and check out my tips for booking hard-to-get campgrounds if you need some helpful strategies.
Watchman Campground – Zion, UT – $ (or these other places to stay in Zion)
Jumbo Rocks Campground – Joshua Tree NP, CA – $
Indian Cove Campground – Joshua Tree NP, CA – $
Mather Campground – Grand Canyon, AZ – $
